The Summit FM has been hosting their annual 330 Day Concert since 2016, now featuring 33 acts from the region. In Cleveland Heights, they’re rolling out the welcome mat for families on Coventry Kids Day. Holden Arboretum explains it all with their interactive exhibit on maple sap, then gives you a taste of the real thing with a sweet pancake breakfast. DJ Red-I and Playne Jayne represent as Fresh Produce, and they drop their 4th release this weekend.

Performance art duo Princess is Out There at moCa, Cleveland Burlesque celebrates 15 at the Beachland, The Pride comes out at convergence-continuum, and we’re talking about the aftermath of the Parkland shootings at Hudson Library. It’s enough to rip out your soul. –Thomas Mulready

CoolCLE PODCAST #25: British Northern Soul and Mod Dance Nights

Learn more about the music, the history and the subculture of British mod and northern soul with the 2 British DJs that are bringing it to Cleveland via mod, northern soul, funk and ska music and dance nights – Michael Ridley and Alan Otter. The Resurrection Soul Club dance nights are hosted on the last Friday of every month, with the next one happening on Fri 3/29 at the 5 O’Clock Lounge in Lakewood.

And we have new music from Cleveland’s Beach Stav and Akron’s Chil.

Many Voices Together

Radio station The Summit FM is based in Akron, but also covers Canton and Youngstown. That’s why its annual 330 Day concert, which has taken place in Akron for three years, is moving to Canton this year and Youngstown in 2020. Starting with six acts in 2016, the event has grown to 33, each of whom will perform one acoustic song on a split stage.

“It’s fun for local music lovers because they get to see so many acts on one stage,” says station marketing & events director Ryan Humbert. “Also, because each artist only plays for four minutes, the rest of the time you get to see your friends and mingle with fellow local music lovers. It’s fun for the bands because there are so many of us that don’t normally get to see each other too often.” Sat 3/30.

500 Years Is Enough

It’s not an April Fool joke. It’s not a joke at all. When Cleveland’s baseball season opens April 1, members of the Native-American community and their allies will again be outside Progressive Field, peacefully protesting the team’s name and its racist logo, which is being phased out verrrrrry slooooowly.

The day before, at Baldwin Wallace University, the Committee of 500 Years of Dignity and Resistance will hold its 20th annual educational conference, inviting the public to join and learn more about intergenerational racism in Indigenous Nations and the environment. In Praise of Democratic Virtue

Peter Wehner, conservative New York Times columnist, national television commentator and senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, presents Baldwin Wallace University’s Spahr Chair Annual Lecture on Ethics Mon 4/1. Wehner, who served in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, is completing a book for HarperCollins titled The Death of Politics: How to Heal Our Frayed Republic After Trump with a June release.

Wehner’s BW talk, In Praise of Democratic Virtue, will lay out a set of common virtues and ethical principles accessible to all of us in politics, business and beyond. His appearance is free and open to the public. Info here.

Ditch the Kids for a Day

It’s spring break! If your 2nd-6th grader is making you crazy, drop them off at Lake Erie Ink for a Spring Break Creative Play Day where they can do art and writing activities indoor and blow off steam on the outdoor playground. Thu 3/28.

* The merchants of Coventry Village in Cleveland Heights will be rolling out the welcome mat for families on Coventry Kids Day with kids yoga, karaoke, airbrush tattoos, balloons, carnival games, make & take workshops, story time at the library and a whole lot more. Sun 3/31.

A lot of organizations are holding pancake breakfasts this time of year to give folks a taste of NE Ohio maple syrup. But Holden Arboretum goes one better: you can not only have breakfast but also tour an exhibition on how trees produce the sap that becomes the syrup – and see the actual trees. Sat 3/30 & Sun 3/31.

15 60 75 Is 49

Kent’s Numbers Band aka 15 60 75 formed in the summer of 1970, making it the longest continually running rock band in the area. It’s led by ferocious guitarist/vocalist Robert Kidney, whose intense performances are legendary, as is the band’s distinctive melding of blues, jazz and rock.

A band with such a long history evokes a lot of memories among local music fans. Our writer Claudia Taller shares some of what she’s experienced and urges those who haven’t experienced them – or who just need another dose – to catch them this week at Kent’s Water Street Tavern or Peninsula’s G.A.R. Cleveland hip-hop duo FreshProduce – a pair of young women who call themselves DJ Red-I and Playne Jayne – has been rocking their beats for four years, running a label and a record store along the way. Their fourth release is in the pipeline ready to be dropped at the Grog Shop Sat 3/30.

Playwrights Local calls the new script The Demon on the Mountaintop by Robert M.K. Daniels, an “adult fairy tale.” It’s giving the work a one-night-only staged reading at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts.

* Miss Sharon Jones! screening at the Rock Hall, depicts the late-life success & tragically early death of soul singer Sharon Jones.

Performance art duo Princess will perform live music to video when it does its multi-disciplinary presentation Out There at moCa Cleveland, as it explores what role men should play in the current cultural discussion of misogyny.

* The Pride at convergence-continuum tells the story of same-sex relationships 50 years apart. Through Sat 4/20.
