After three successful years in the Rubber City, 90.7/91.3 The Summit FM is staging its 4th Annual free 330 Day Concert Sat 3/30 at Umstattd Hall in Canton.
“We’re excited because every year it just keeps getting bigger and better,” says Summit marketing & events director Ryan Humbert. “We were seeing momentum supporting local music and 330.net, which is 24/7 devoted to local music.
“The first year we had six acts, the second year we had 18 acts. So last year we decided to go all in moving it to a bigger venue, the Akron Civic Theatre. We had 33 acts on the bill with more than 1,000 people showing up. The Summit listening area is Akron, Canton and Youngstown, so we want to make sure we’re hitting all of our markets. That’s why we’re taking it to Canton for the first time.”
The upcoming evening of acoustic music features one stripped-down song from each local musician on the Umstattd stage, which is divided in half to eliminate downtime between performances.
Ranging from Americana and hard rock to pop and soul artists, the bill includes Angie Haze, Brent Kirby, Broken Transmitter, the Brothers Dualist, Cody J. Martin, Diamond Kites (featuring Jeff Klemm), Diana Chittester, Don Dixon & Marti Jones, the Dreemers, Emily Gambone, Flight 619 and Floco Torres.
Also scheduled to perform are The Got It Got It Need It, Gretchen Pleuss, Hal Walker, Hey Monea, Jim Ballard, Labra Brothers, Madison Cummins, Marc Lee Shannon, Ohio Weather Band, Shelby Olive, Shivering Timbers, the Shootouts, the Speedbumps, Spy Convention, Stems, Tracey Thomas, the Vindys, Wesley Bright & the Honeytones, White Buffalo Woman, Yankee Bravo and Zach.
“It’s fun for local music lovers because they get to see so many acts on one stage,” Humbert said. “It’s fun for the bands because there are so many of us that don’t normally get to see each other too often.
“Also, because each artist only plays for four minutes, the rest of the time you get to see your friends and mingle with fellow local music lovers.”
Looking ahead, Humbert said 330 Day Concert will be on a rotation.
“We already have confirmation that next year we’ll be in Youngstown at the Stambaugh Auditorium,” Humbert said. “Then we’ll bring it back to Akron the year after that, so we definitely have a pretty good plan in place.”
