Escher Quartet Performs World Premier of Commissioned Piece at E.J. Thomas Hall

Thu 3/28 @ 7:30PM

New York City’s Escher String Quarter is currently quartet-in-residence at Akron’s Tuesday Musical series. As such, they’ll be making a return visit to E.J. Thomas Hall this week for the final performance of the 2018-2019 where they’ll perform the world premiere of a new work by Andrew Norman for which Tuesday Musical was the lead commissioner. They’ll then go on to perform it at Wigmore Hall in London, Lincoln Center and the Aspen Music Festival.

Norman was named Musical America’s 2017 Composer of the Year, and has written piano concertos for Emanual Ax and Jeffrey Kahane. The in-demand 39-year-old composer is currently working on a symphony for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among other collaborations.

In addition to the Norman piece, the Escher Quartet will perform at Mozart’s String Quartet in F major and Beethoven’s Quartet in C-sharp minor for strings.

Tickets are $25-$46. Students of all ages are free. There’s a pre-concert talk at 6:30 where University of Akron School of Music faculty member James Wilding will talk with the musicians.
