Karamu Produces Local Playwright Eric Coble’s “The Velocity of Autumn”

Thu 3/28-Sun 4/21

The Velocity of Autumn, written by much-produced prolific Cleveland Heights playwright Eric Coble, tells the story of an 80-year-old woman’s determination to stay in her Brooklyn brownstone home by any means necessary against the wishes, pleas and machinations of her family.

The play premiered at the Beck Center with legendary Cleveland actress Dorothy Silver in the lead role of the elderly Alexandria. When it was produced on Broadway in 2014, Estelle Parsons played the role. It’s also been performed local by the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre.

Now Karamu’s theater is mounting the show with Jeanne Madison as Alexandria with Imani Khiry as her son Chris. Karamu’s own Nathan Lilly directs. It will be performed Thursdays-Sundays 3/28-4/21. Tickets are $40; $35 for seniors; $20 for students under 25 with ID.
