French Pianist Alexandre Tharaud Books Last-Minute Show at Oberlin to Replace Ailing Polish Musician

Wed 4/3 @ 7:30PM

Polish pianist/composer Piotr Anderszewski was scheduled to tackle a pair of challenging pieces — Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations and Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II — at Oberlin’s Finney Chapel this week as part of the school’s 2018-2019 Artist Recital Series. But he’s canceled a series of dates, including that one, due to illness.

Instead, concertgoers will have the chance to hear Parisian pianist Alexandre Tharaud performing J.S. Bach’s well-known Goldberg Variations, a set of 30 variations on an aria, published between 1731 and 1741. He performed them in a 2015 film by French director Stéphan Aubé. Following the performance Thabaud will do a Q&A session conducted by Oberlin professor of piano Robert Shannon.

Tickets are $35, $30 for seniors, $10 for students.
