While the sun shines, get to the Zoo to see the new snow leopard cubs and vote to select their new names. CoolCleveland’s wine maven Claudia Taller preps you for the wealth of Ohio wineries showcasing at the annual Vintage Ohio festival at Lake Metroparks. The 4th annual Sand Festival happens on the beach at Edgewater. The big Cuyahoga County Fair is on, along with street festivals in Lakewood, Twinsburg, Parma, the Warehouse District and neighborhoods beyond.
But you and I know that the real fun begins late at night. The Ohio Burlesque Festival has grown to over 70 acts in its 8th year as it celebrates diversity. Films are screening at night all over town: in Beachwood, Berea, Cleveland Heights, Playhouse Square. And music plays late into the night at the Rock Hall, at Blossom, in Oberlin, at CIM, in the National Park and at the Happy Dog. Even Twilight at the Zoo is open till midnight, creeping and crawling all night long. –Thomas Mulready

Cleveland photographer Herb Ascherman has become known in the last couple of decades for creating his exquisite, time-consuming platinum prints. He’s also found time to travel extensively and develop friendships with other artists such as Kerala, India’s Unni Krishnan Pulikkal.
Now the two are doing their first Cleveland show together at Loftworks Gallery in Asiatown. Called East Meets West, it features Ascherman’s direct-from-negative contact prints and Pulikkal’s platinum prints made from digital files. John Benson chats with Ascherman about their relationship and its fruits. Fri 8/3.
Alisa Feingold is hoping to take a selfie with Tina Fey. And a lot more.
The director of content for Avery Dennison, a Fortune 500 company based in the Cleveland area, is planning to attend the big Content Marketing World conference scheduled for September 4-7 at the Huntington Convention Center in Downtown Cleveland.
Between the skill development, the informative vendors, and the chance to rub shoulders with the best in the business, Alisa didn’t need to think too hard about returning. And there’s always that chance that she’ll bump into keynote speaker Tina Fey.

The Ohio Burlesque Festival, now in its 8th year at the Beachland Ballroom, gets bigger and better each year. This year, more than 70 acts from around the country (as well as Canada and Panama) will perform over three days, bringing glamor, humor, beauty, outrageousness, agility and even an occasional serious message to the stage.
Festival founder Bella Sin (who also performs on Friday) likes to emphasize one thing in particular that sets the event apart from many others: it strives for diversity in all aspects – racial, ethnic, gender and sexual identity and body type. The next big burlesque star could be anybody! Thu 8/2-Sat 8/4.
Are you experienced? The Murch Canopy Walk, a 500′ long elevated walkway built 65′ above the forest floor, offers guests a unique perspective on forests and the animals that inhabit them. The Kalberer Emergent Tower takes guests above the trees to a height of 120′ where on a clear day you can see all the way to Lake Erie.
Each Thursday through 8/9, the Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Tower will remain open until 8PM with reduced admission, allowing guests to witness the beauty of the changing light as the sun starts to set over our natural areas. Details.

On April 22, an exciting event occurred at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Snow leopard Sombra gave birth to three cubs, two males and a female. They’re now romping in their own special “cub yard” at the new Asian Highlands exhibit. Damn, they’re cute.
From now through August 7, you can help name them, choosing from five names the zoo has already picked. Go to the zoo to vote (you know you want to see them!) or vote online for a small donation that goes toward the protection of snow leopards in the wilds of Central Asia.
