Happy Dog in Gordon Square Plans Special 10th Anniversary Events

Megachurch

Wed 8/1 @ 8PM

Fri 8/3 @ 9PM

Sun 8/5 @ noon

The Happy Dog in Gordon Square turns 10 years old this week. Actually it’s been around longer than that, but it’s been 10 years since the current ownership turned it into Cleveland’s top hipster destination, with its menu of customizable hot dogs and tater tots, a full schedule of the best local indie rock and touring acts, and special events such as science and civic affairs lectures and panel discussions, author events, and Classical Revolution, which started at the club.

It’s celebrating with a week of special anniversary events, starting with Keep Talking: A Storytelling Show on Wed 8/1. It’ll feature anniversary-themed stories by people associated with the club including co-owner Sean Watterson. Expect to wipe away some tears if he pays tribute to co-owner Sean Kilbane who died in a fall from the club’s back stairs in early 2014. Admission is $5.

Then on Fri 8/3 Cleveland’s mighty Megachurch returns to the stage with their thunderous sound. They’ll be joined by Akron surf rockers the Beyonderers and Columbus psych band Dana. DJ LCD (Lawrence Daniel Caswell of This Moment in Black History) will warm things up with soul and funk tracks on the turntable from 6-9pm. Admission is $7.

On Sun 8/5, the Happy Dog will serve a brunch of veggie omelets, pancakes and biscuits and gravy starting at noon, with DJ Paul Weaver spinning punk and glam until 3pm. Then at 4, there’s a free concert with lo-fi rockers Counter Intuits, Cleveland punks the Cowboys and Krud.

In addition, the Happy Dog has added some new items to its permanent menu: field roast vegan burgers, pork kielbasa and “Red Hot” hot dogs.
