This year’s version of the Rock Hall’s annual Summer in the City series of free concerts on its outdoor plaza shines the spotlight on the increasing number of outstanding omen-led bands taking the stage around the country and in the Cleveland.
Week two features Nashville trio Bully, fronted by Alicia Bognanno, who trained as a recording engineer before taking the stage. They’ve released two albums of their aggressive, ’90s grunge-influenced rock — Feels Like in 2015 on a Columbia subsidiary and 2017’s Losing on Seattle-based Sub Pop.
Opening the evening is Cleveland’s Punch Drunk Tagalongs, a dynamic ensemble of indie rockers, who also refer back to ’90s grunge but injected with more of a pop sensibility. They’re also fronted by an “Alicia” — Alisha Stahnke, a sparkling performer with an intuitive sense of how to blend nuance and unflinching directness in her delivery.
Food and drink will be available on the plaza, and CoolCleveland editor/photographer Anastasia Pantsios will be there selling and signing her photo book Girls to the Front: 40 Years of Women in Rock.
The shows continue on Wednesdays through August.
