Akron’s EarthQuaker Devices Holds an Open House/Music Festival to Share its Story

Sat 8/4 @ 11AM-9PM

EarthQuaker effects pedals are used by prominent musicians all over the world, who like the range of interesting sounds they can get from this high-quality gear. And they’re made by hand right here in Akron, Ohio. EarthQuaker Devices is the classic example of a business that started small as a home project and grew to employ dozens of local workers, benefiting both the local economy and the local music scene.

To share its story with northeast Ohioans, the company holds its periodic EarthQuaker Day events. At what it describes as “two-parts music festival, three-parts customer appreciation day, one-part effects pedal factory open house, one-part guitar show, one-part art installation and one-part street fair,” it includes music by local artists Uno Lady, Shivering Timers, Lisa Bella Donna, Houseguest, The Man I Fell in Love With and This Moment in Black History, a pedal-building workshop, a riff contest and even kids’ activities (get ‘em hooked while they’re young).

It all takes place at EarthQuaker’s facility near downtown Akron, and there’s an afterparty at Lock 3, featuring the riff contest finals and sets by Black Sabbath and Danzig tribute bands. It’s free, except for all those effects pedals you’ll now discover you can’t live without!
