On The Water

09.09-09.16.20

It’s time to get in it, and get on it.

Our greatest natural resource, next to the brilliance of the artists in our region, is our generous supply of fresh water.

Whether it’s virtually attending Drink Local Drink Tap’s annual benefit Splash, or the new show at Bonfoey focusing on the climate emergency, or CanalWay Partners’ Riversweep event to clean up the riverbanks, we hope you’re inspired to celebrate our water. Maybe it’s simply beholding our PHOTOSTREAMS from Lake Erie, Geneva, Sandy Ridge or Katie Spotz’s record-breaking act of charity running non-stop for water, we invite you to get out now to embrace and support our water lifeline.

We kick off our upcoming project, The Birth of Punk in Cleveland, Akron & Kent with an honest-to-goodness, old-school, safe, socially distanced LIVE outdoor concert next week at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

It’s about time, don’t you think?

The Birth of Punk Launches at Rock Hall

Years before punk reared its ugly head in New York or London, a group of misfits, art students and disaffected youth in our region, many of them shocked by the massacre at Kent State University, spun off bands and artists that eventually moved on to New York and London as leaders of the new punk scene.

Obsessive musicologist Thomas Mulready, in collaboration with glam punk heroes Vanity Crash, turns his attention to the rise of a movement that still shakes the world. Fully produced from extensive first-person video interviews with the artists and scene makers, the livestreamed multimedia event includes hi-energy original and classic sounds from artists in the Cleveland/Akron/Kent axis who influenced generations.

Livestreamed events take place Thu 10/8 & Fri 10/9, streamed live from Cleveland’s own BOP STOP. But first, an honest-to-goodness, old-school, safe, socially distanced LIVE outdoor concert kicks things off next week at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Thu 9/17 from 5-7PM, with FREE tickets required for admission.

 BOOK REVIEW
Fair Weather Friend

The revelations in Stephanie Winston Wolkoff’s new book, Melania and Me, should come as no surprise to most observers of the First Family. The author details her close but superficial friendship with Melania and how she became the scapegoat for out-of-control inaugural spending. Reviewer C. Ellen Connally suggests that, despite some spicy tidbits, “wait until the book becomes available at the free bookstore — the public library.”  Read More
