Bonfoey Gallery Show Focuses on the Environment

Fri 9/11 @ 10AM-7PM

Bonfoey Gallery downtown was planning a showcase of environmentally related art back in the spring to honor Earth Day, but you know what happened to that.

That show is now taking place and will be hanging on its gallery walls. Cause for Environmental Change features work in diverse media by Ron Barron, Christopher Burk, Susan Danko, Lauralee Hutson, Deb Lawrence, Erik Neff, Ardine Nelson, Jenniffer Omaitz, Diane Pinchot, Carmen Romine, Lisa Schonberg, Susan Squires and Barbara Stanczak. The works address issues such as climate change, global warming and human impact on the Earth. Many of them include representations of nature or recycled materials, and many are working to make their own artistic practices more sustainable.

“With the launch of our exhibition, Cause for Environmental Change, Bonfoey aims to comment on the looming question of what is happening to our world,” the gallery notes. “As an advocate and promoter of art, we feel it is our responsibility to use our platform to encourage environmental change. Now, more than ever, society is conscious of the environmental issues plaguing our planet. People want to care and contribute, and whether that is through art or other means, we acknowledge our role as an avenue to do as such.”

Alas, the biggest social gatherings known as opening receptions are (at least temporarily) no more. On opening day, Friday September 11, the gallery will be open from 10am to 7pm. It’s asking visitors to make an appointment online for a time slot. Go here to do so. Masks are required!

Can you or will someone do some online video? I follow environmental art. Make a little also, but would enjoy being able to see some links. Maybe each artist video and post to a group link on YouTube? Or someplace else…I’m in Tennessee. Thanks. Kim
