Island Green Week Focuses on Environmental Stewardship of Lake Erie Islands

Sat 8/2-Sat 8/9

Once again, the Lake Erie Islands—South Bass, Middle Bass, Kellys and Gibraltar—are celebrating Island Green Week, an event started in 2016 to remind visitors of the importance of protecting the natural landscape that attracts so many visitors to the islands. It features a wide range of activities, some educational, some just for fun.

They range from Middle Bass Islands’ Poker Kayak Day on Saturday, August 2, and the 13th Annual Pig Roast at The Goat on Put-in-Bay on Wednesday, August 6, to an Eco-Ramble Scavenger Hunt on Put-in-Bay that you can do any time, and Lake Erie Awareness Day across all of South Bass Island on Thursday August 7. There’s a free tour of Kelleys Island’s Glacial Grooves on Monday, August 4, and a program on snakes at the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center on Tuesday, August 5. There are ongoing science and nature activities for both kids and adults, and of course, the chance to visit the islands’ many nature preserves on your own to drink in their beauty.
