Even if you don’t follow news all that closely, you’ve probably heard scare stories about voter rolls being purged. In Texas, more than 1.2 voters have been “suspended” over questions about their address which they must confirm before casting a ballot — and many have no idea. (Luckily, a group in Texas is working to contact the voters to confirm their status). In Ohio, Secretary of State Frank LaRose is notorious for his voter roll purges.
To combat the possibility that legitimate voters are unknowingly having their registration cancelled, as well as make sure as many as possible get registered, Tuesday September 15 is National Voter Registration Day, described as a “nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy.”
In Cuyahoga County, The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections and Cleveland Votes volunteers will be hosting nonpartisan events across the county. They aren’t interested in HOW you vote (that’s your private business), just THAT you vote. Registration deadline in Ohio is October 5 and early voting starts October 6 for the November 3 election.
