BOP STOP Celebrates Its 12th Anniversary Week with Diverse Music

Wed 10/14 @ 7-9PM

This week, the BOP STOP will be celebrating its 12th anniversary as part of The Music Settlement, the longstanding educational nonprofit in University Circle that more recently has expanded into a Ohio City space just two blocks from the BOP STOP. The club was originally built as a jazz club around 24 years ago and donated to The Music Settlement after it closed. Since then, it’s continued to host jazz, along with gospel, folk, pop, reggae, classical and more, along with comedy, film and student showcases.

The anniversary week shows the range of what the club opens its door to. It kicks off on Wednesday October 14 with classically trained Northeast Ohio jazz pianist Dan Kamionkowski, along with bassist Alfredo Guerrieri and drummer Joe Tomino for what’s described as “an evening of groove-oriented improvisation built around Dan’s original compositions, with a few reimagined standards (and not-so-standards).” Kamionkowski is also a founding member of Melocotón and the Northcoast Jazz Trio and has played in the pit orchestra at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre. The rest of the week’s schedule includes jazz vocalist G. Thomas Allen on Thursday October 15; New Orleans-influenced Da Land Brass Band on Friday October16; local jazz sax player/composer Chris Coles with his eight-piece group Chris Coles Gleam on Saturday October 17 celebrating the release of his latest album Love Daemon Song Cycle; jazz musicians Troy Roberts (sax) & Theron Brown (piano) with a quartet on Sunday October 18; and two of the BOP STOP’s recurring events: the monthly Outlab: Experiments in Improvised Music jam session on Tuesday October20, and Brent Kirby’s bi-monthly 10 x 3 songwriter showcase on Wednesday October 21.
