Min Jin Lee is a Korean-American author based in New York City, and her works’ themes often address the Korean diaspora. Her 2007 novel, Free Food for Millionaires and her 2017 National Book Award finalist, Pachinko, were well-received with glowing reviews, and last month, she published the third novel in her Korean quartet called American Hagwon.
American Hagwon tells the story of displaced Koreans trying to find a place in the world where they can fit in and succeed. A family is displaced by a the 1997 Asian financial crisis, and leaves Seoul for Sydney, Australia, and then for Southern California, with different family members and generations finding their own goals and way to adjust.
The author will be speaking at the Parma Snow Library on Monday October 5. Each ticket includes a copy of American Hagwon, and a donation to the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation. Additional books may be purchased at the event courtesy of Mac’s Backs on Coventry. Go HERE to get tickets.
