Northeast Ohio’s Alla Boara, formed by jazz drummer Anthony Taddeo during the pandemic. He was inspired by Alan Lomax’s 1954 Smithsonian Folkways field recordings of nearly extinct regional Italian folk tunes. He used those songs as a baseline and enlisted some of the area’s other best young jazz musicians to give the music a contemporary twist, drawing on jazz, rock and world music.
Since then, they’ve put out three albums, done some collaborations, begun to tour more widely, and formed an educational wing. What might have seemed like an obscure concept has grown into a unique ensemble producing some of the freshest and more engaging music around.
The band now has TWO more albums in the pipeline. You’ll have to wait a few months for its holiday album, but this week it drops a new one, called Tessere. It will celebrate its release with a concert at Peninsula’s G.A.R. show. Hang out with the band and enjoy some refreshments in the bar area at 7pm; the concert starts at 8. Go HERE for tickets.
