Fri 10/16 @ 7:30PM

To open its 42nd season, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra is putting on a convert called “Rhythm Nation,” and spotlighting a special guest musician, well known in Cleveland’s music community, who has an international reputation as a percussionist.

Noted as the longtime percussionist for Paul Simon, Haddad was born and raised in Cleveland. he left, as many do, to go to college, in his case Boston’s Berklee College of Music.  He then moved to New York where he created the reputation and network of contacts that led to his gig with Simon. After several decades in New York, he returned to Northeast Ohio in the early 2000s, when he took a job as a professor of improvisation and percussion at Oberlin.

“We’ve created a unique program to showcase Jamey’s work with Paul Simon, the Silk Road Project (directed by Yo-Yo Ma), as well as excursions into Arabian, Sephardic and Brazilian music,” says CJO artistic director Paul Ferguson. “The evening will be a jazz ‘Pictures at an Exhibition,’ curated by Jamey Haddad!”

In addition, the concert is dedicated to the memory of bassist/composer and longtime CJO member Dave Morgan (1957-2026). It takes places at the Maltz Performing Arts Center in University Circle. Go HERE for tickets.
