Beck Center Brings “Mean Girls” The Musical to Life on Stage

Beck Center Brings "Mean Girls" The Musical to Life on Stage

Fri 7/10-Sun 8/9

The 2004 movie Mean Girls, written by Saturday Night Live alum Tina Fey and starring Lindsey Lohan, became a cultural phenomenon, offering a number of expressions and concepts that have embedded themselves in the larger culture. So it was no surprise that the teen comedy about a high school newcomer’s confrontation with the school’s elite clique became the Heathers of the 2000s (minus the murders), or that it was turned into a musical which debuted on Broadway in 2018, ran for more than 600 performances, and snagged 12 Tony Awards. It closed in 2020 due to the pandemic.

With so many strong roles for girls, it’s become such a favorite of regional and community theaters that no sooner has Ashtabula Arts Center’s Straw Hat Theatre concluded its June run than the Beck Center for the arts in Lakewood opens theirs, directed by Scott Spence, with musical direction by Bryan Bird and choreography by Lauren Marousek.

It opens Friday July 10 in the Senney Theater and runs through Sunday August 9. Go here for tickets.
