Pianist/singer/songwriter Mike Maimone is originally from Ashtabula, but he’s built a productive career on the west coast where he lives in Laguna Beach. He’s recorded more than dozen albums, and is just about to release his 15th, called Guess What? I Love You. His gritty music has been compared to such gritty artists such as Tom Waits, Warren Zevon, Dr. John and Leon Russell.
Maimone will be coming home to Northeast Ohio to share the new work at the Treelawn in the Waterloo Arts District. The solo show will feature songs from the album, as well as short readings from his debut memoir of the same name. The memoir addresses his love for and loss of his late husband, LGBTQ+ advocate and Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman, and how writing helped him process his grief and started healing. His bio says that “On this tour, Maimone invites audience—especially those navigating grief—to keep their hearts open, embrace the full spectrum of emotion, and look out for the ‘good winks’ that tell us our loved ones are still round us, or that we’re on the right path.”
