Hiromi Uehara is a Japanese jazz pianist and composer, inspired by artists such as Stanley Clarke and Ahmad Jamal, who mentored her when she enrolled at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Before even graduating, she signed with the Cleveland-based Telarc Jazz label for whom she’s recorded more than a dozen albums since her first was released in 2003. She’s known for her eclectic approach to jazz, blending various jazz styles, as well as elements of prog rock and classical music into her playing and compositions.
Fifteen years ago, she founded her trio project and recorded four albums with them, before they evolved into Sonicwonder, with different personnel. For her current tour, she’s revived the Trio Project, which features the original drummer Simon Phillips, with James Genus on bass, replacing the later Anthony Jackson. The Trio Project will perform at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium on Wednesday October 14. Get tickets HERE.
