The fifth annual Juneteenth Freedom Fest may not have been as packed as in previous years, but a morning downpour left Mall C soggy and may have kept people away: many in attendance sports rubber boots. Still, the food, performers, art, vendors and activities kept people entertained all afternoon. Standout performances on the two stages included poet Siaara Freeman, the drummer and dancers from Djapo Cultural Arts, a high-energy gospel showcase, and a tribute to 80s soul artist Frankie Beverly & Maze by the Karamu Players.
