MANSFIELD: The Universal Language

President Biden has placed himself between a rock and a hard place when it comes Afghanistan. He was getting information from two sides, his generals who were saying there was plenty of time to evacuate the U.S Embassy and the interpreters who worked with our troops for years, and on the other side the CIA and State Department was informing the president that the country would swiftly fall once our troops were withdrawn.

As it turns out the CIA and State Department were correct and the generals were wrong. The speed with which the country fell to the Taliban was startling.

Now the interpreters are stuck, since some live in other parts of the country and even those who reside in Kabul can’t get safe passage through the Taliban, who now encircle the airport.

What the president now must understand is that in Third World countries most things work via the bribe. If we indeed have U.S. representatives that are in contact with the Taliban they have to use the universal language of money to coax the forces now in control of Afghanistan to grant safe passage to the people we want to extricate from the country and the madness.
