For more than 15 years, the Maltz Museum has hosted its Stop the Hate essay contest for junior high and high school students across northeast Ohio, urging them to think about difference and discrimination and ways they can personally act to fight back for justice, support inclusion, and help people understand each other better. In recent years its Stop the Hate Youth Speak Out competition has been joined by its Youth Sing Out contest, where classes work with professional musicians to write songs expressing similar ideas.
This year, its 17th, 3,638 students from 150 schools submitted essays, poems and songs that they wrote. Finalists were announced in March, and now, the Stop the Hate awards ceremony, taking place at Tri-C East’s Mandel Theatre, will honor the very best of those original efforts. The event is free; you can register to attend here.
