It’s the 59th year for one of Akron’s Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens’ biggest events and main fundraisers of the year: its four-day Ohio Mart.
The juried event showcases 150 artisans and makers from across the state offering jewelry, textiles, ceramics, garden décor, sculpture, leather goods, plants, teas, photography, candles, puzzles, puppets, birdhouses, culinary products (one of our faves, Akron Honey, will be there!), and much more — and 30 of them are new to the event this year. And the Carriage House will offer browse antiques, collectibles, vintage items, and home décor. It’s a great chance to do some early holiday shopping while enjoying peak autumn nature at the estate’s expansive grounds.
Specifically for kids, there’s the Playgarden, the Homes of Nature giant animal habitat, and children’s stitchery projects on Saturday and Sunday.
In addition, food vendors will be offering Thai, Italian, Mexican, BBQ and American food, as well as snacks (kettle corn, chocolates)and Stan Hywet’s noted gingerbread treats. Admission also includes self-guided tours of the Manor House and the chance to explore the Textile Arts & Artisan Show presented by the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild, which includes demonstrations by members of the guild.
The event raises money to run the once-private estate built by Goodyear founder F.A. Seiberling in 1915 and donated after his death in 1955 to become a a nonprofit museum open to the public to enjoy the buildings and grounds on the 70-acre estate.
