Dogs are always welcome at Put-in-Bay but they’ll be especially welcome this weekend when Shores and Island Ohio present the Put-in-Bay Dog Bowel for two days at McCann’s Field. And it’s bringing in the international sporting organization DockDogs, which offers canine athletes the change to compete in three disciplines: “Big Air” long-distance jumping, “Extreme Vertical” high-jump bumper grab, and “Speed Retrieve,” a timed dash to a suspended toy.
You can register your dog to compete or you can just come and enjoy the fun as dozens of enthusiastic, tail-wagging dogs put on their best act for owners and audience. They’re hoping to get as many dogs out there as possible, so if yours is social, bring them, whether they’re sporting or not. Every dog gets a free sticker and bandana. Dogs ride the Miller Ferry for free, and half the fun of taking the Miller is making friends with people’s dogs.
