Public Square Free Concert Series Presents Two Distinctive Local Ensembles

Wed 9/2 @ 5-8PM

The free Wednesday concerts on Public Square continue through September, offering opportunities to enjoy Cleveland’s downtown, dinner from a food trucks and drinks from the expanded bar, along with music by an interesting variety of mostly local groups — and no tribute bands!

This week you can catch a performance by one of Cleveland’s most innovative ensembles, Mourning [A] BLKstar founded a decade ago by local poet/author/activist/musician R.A. Washington. He’s collected a group of skilled players with different backgrounds to come together to make distinctive music that blends jazz, soul, hip hop and spoken word that addresses issues of injustice and expanded awareness. The self-dubbed “Afrofutirst Collective” has toured the U.S. and Europe as well as played most major Northeast Ohio events and venues.

The opening act is well worth checking out as well: Akron-based hip-hop duo Free Black!, featuring vocalist/rapper Floco Torres and producer/beatsmaker hr3drumz.
