Celebrate Lithuanian Independence Restoration Day at Cleveland City Hall

Fri 3/13 @ 6PM

In these times, when much of the civic discourse is dark, it’s always good to find things to celebrate. And that’s what the Cleveland Lithuanian community will be doing at Cleveland City Hall Friday March 13, when it marks Lithuanian Independence Day. Technically, it’s Lithuanian Independence Restoration Day (March 11), marking its break from the Soviet Union in 1990.

There, in the Rotunda, the Honorable General Consul of the Republic of Lithuania, Chicago-based Regimantas Jablonskas, will speak, Lithuanian Folk Dance Group Svyturys will perform. And there will be Lithuanian treats follows the program.

“As we gather to celebrate Lithuania’s restored independence, we are reminded that freedom is both precious and hard-won,” says Ingrida Bublys, Honorary General Consul of the Republic of Lithuania and one of the leaders of Cleveland’s Lithuanian community. “Our community comes together not only to honor our history, but to reaffirm the enduring spirit, resilience, and unity of the Lithuanian people — here in Cleveland and across the world.”

All are welcome to the free celebration.
