Join the Dancing Wheels Company & School in their world premiere performance of Allies in Action! New works by choreographers Alexis Diggs, Tiffany Mills, and Mark Tomasic bring together movement, music, and storytelling.

The concert will showcase an electrifying dance performance honoring the vibrant spirit of the LGBTQIA+ community and others in allyship and celebrating diversity and inclusion with unbridled joy and passion! Special entertainment by the Coastliners, an ensemble from the North Coast Men’s Chorus! Conductor Lorenzo Lopez has won the prestigious Resipighi Prize and will conduct the Chamber Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall this Thu 5/30.

A native of the Cleveland area, Lorenzo is of Honduran and Puerto Rican descent, and he talks with CoolCleveland’s Thomas Mulready about how his cultural heritage and his background as a singer inform his conducting. View the video here.

Lopez continues with a busy 24/25 schedule, conducting in Quebec, California, Honduras, and Bucharest, as well as in Cleveland and Akron with City Music and Cleveland Ballet. Read more.

 

Although Dan Sweeney is an experienced musician, his partner and lead vocalist Colin McGowan had never performed live before an audience until they formed the band Ever Green in 2019 when they got together to sing some traditional Irish tunes.

Based in Cleveland, Ever Green started writing their own original music and has since become of the most in-demand Irish acts in the area with performances scheduled throughout the region at pubs & festivals.

Ever Green recently released their album Plastic Paddies and they talk with CoolCleveland’s Thomas Mulready about their process while previewing the album’s lead-off track, In Americay. View the video here.  Tri-C JazzFest 

 

Supergroup Scary Goldings combines hard-hitting grooves and well-crafted parts to make for a truly fun and unique time. The group consists of funk ensemble Scary Pockets (anchored by guitarist Ryan Lerman and keyboardist Jack Conte) and Larry Goldings, with his signature Hammond organ style.

Tri-C JazzFest has announced the lineup of bands and musicians scheduled to play the big stage that’s the focus of its free outdoor festival Friday and Saturday. No surprise, the headliners are the same as in recent years: Carlos Jones’ reggae band on Friday and Sammy DeLeon’s Latin jazz orchestra on Saturday — because why tamper with success? These two groups have people dancing all over Euclid Avenue and East 14th Street. Read more.

The North Union Farmers Markets at Shaker Square and Crocker Park run year round, going indoors for a few months in winter. Its satellite markets are summer-only. They launch at four locations around Cuyahoga County this week and next, bringing fresh, locally grown, raised and produced food closer to more people. Read more.

Farewell to a Curmudgeon
Chicago producer Steve Albini was known for strong opinions and helping to bring out the best in a huge array of underground bands from the late 80s on. He passed away May 7; Vinyl DJs will celebrate his musical legacy at the Beachland Tavern.

Music Al Fresco
Yet another place to enjoy music outdoors is Holden Arboretum, which kicks off its summer series with local singer/songwriter Liz Bullock. There’s food and drink and a landscape to explore.
