The Maltz Museum newest exhibition is called A Celebration of Family and it’s actually two exhibitions in one, along with interactive children’s activities. Growing Up Jewish – Art & Storytelling, created by artist Jacqueline Kott-Wolle, and Love Makes a Family: Portraits of LGBTQ+ People and Their Families, produced by the Family Diversity Project, tell the stories of different types of families in paintings, photographs, and interviews with families of various types, in line with the museum’s mission is to share with visitors the stories of the Jewish and other minority populations and encourage a more inclusive world.
“Growing Up Jewish and Love Makes a Family beautifully showcases the many types of families that make up our diverse communities,” say Maltz board chair Reneé Chelm. “This exhibition is an opportunity to see the different ways Jewish and LGBTQ+ families live their lives, but it’s also a way to see how much we all truly have in common living in America.”
The galleries will be filled with interactive components and play activities to engage the youngest visitors and instill in them an awareness of and respect for other types of families and how they live.
