Ok, this is a true story. Someone I know proposed creating a pollinator garden outside their church and the idea was enthusiastically accepted. Then a Debbie Downer told her that it would attract bees and one might sting a child and the child might be allergic … “I need to research plants that don’t attract bees,” the gardener told me.
What’s wrong with this picture? Holden Arboretum will make sure your kid never makes this mistake with their new exhibit for this summer, “Pollinator Express.” It features miniature trains — what kid doesn’t love those? — traversing a landscape of oversized botanical sculptures of plants from around the world and the insects and animals they need to pollinate them. That includes bees, of course.
The exhibit is included with general admission and will be on view through Sunday September 9.
