Conservationism

07.15-07.22.20

We should all be conservatives when it comes to the environment.

Even Republican President Richard Nixon was savvy enough to pass the Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Air Act and the Endangered Species Act, with the full support of both parties and the nation. Today, it’s doubtful a conservative politician anywhere could get elected professing support for conserving our environment. Which just means you and I have to work twice as hard.

For example, for 71 years, the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District has been working hard on education, stewardship and urban agriculture; catch CoolCleveland’s exclusive video. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History and the Cleveland Public Library offer resources on biodiversity, the environment and conservation. The Alliance for the Great Lakes’ Adopt-A-Beach efforts persist, just a bit decentralized. Plastic Free July draws attention to what individuals can do globally. Environment Ohio acts as a one-stop shop for relevant info. We should also be conserving black lives: Mansfield has a four-part answer for inner-city gun violence.

Being conservative about our environment shouldn’t be hard.
