The odd, occasional Cleveland-based theater ensemble Cesear’s Forum is nearly 40 years old, but largely unknown to most people even though it produces its plays, when it produces them, at the small Kennedy’s DownUnder at Playhouse Square’s Ohio Theatre. But it’s worth knowing about because they present the types of scripts you’re unlikely to see elsewhere.
It’s springing to life again to present an early work by French playwright Yasmina Reza, known for Art (1994) and God of Carnage (2006). In Conversations After a Burial (1987), French patriarch Simon Weinberg’s funeral exposes complicated family relationships that toggle between grief, absurdity and love. The ensemble performs a translation by Christopher Hampton, who translated all of Reza’s plays.
The play will be performed at Kennedy’s on Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm Friday September 25 through Saturday October 24. There will also be two Sunday matinees on October 11 and 18 @ 3pm
