Suburban “home days” type festivals typically aren’t much to write about — food trucks, cover bands, sometimes carnival rides. But South Euclid’s Rock the Block is something else again: its two-day lineup of outstanding and popular local (mostly original) bands in a wide range of genres makes it a major music festival.
Taking place at the South Euclid Food Truck Park on three stages, it features 17 acts, including the long-running stars of the local reggae scene, Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band (6pm Friday); smooth jazz veterans Hubb’s Groove (5pm Saturday); and red-hot soul rock collective Apostle Jones closing things down at 9pm Saturday. Other bands to watch out for include Akron-based The Michael Weber Show, featuring young guitar virtuoso Weber; Latin fusion orchestra Son Gitano; Hello! 3D bringing its infectious, danceable pan-Latin beats; raw indie rockers Girl Cologne; and one of the local scene’s hottest young bands, LoConti, with their classic-meets-contemporary rock sound. You can save yourself running around to clubs and check out a wide range of the area’s top bands in one place over two days.
Yes, there will be food trucks. Duh.
Admission is free.
