No, the Tour de Lakewood bicycling event, now in its second year, does not require you to cycle all 12 hours! It’s actually a free, community-organized, self-guided event, where rides of all ages, skill levels and abilities can explore Lakewood at their own pace. There is no course (just stay in Lakewood, more or less), no set distances and no entry fee. You don’t need an expensive bike or special biking clothes.
“Think of it as the Tour de France, except that it’s nothing like the Tour de France,” they say. “It’s a fun, casual event for the community.” And no doping!
“There are no wrong turns except into Lake Erie,” they add.
The event starts with an optional ten-mile “fun ride,” and then you decide where to go. Use a GPS to record your ride and post it. They say they’ll try to have an afterparty somewhere so check their website.
