Sat 3/7-Sun 3/8 @ 10AM-3PM
Maple trees are typically tapped for their sap in mid-winter — late January to mid-February. And after that — it’s peak maple syrup time, time to slather it on pancakes and eat up.
That’s why Hale Farm & Village is hosting its Maple Sugar Festival & Pancake Breakfasts on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the entire month of March. Each weekend, visitors can stop by for a pancake breakfast at the Gatehouse Visitor Center from 10am-2pm before heading out to explore the grounds of the reconstructed 19th-century village where actors take on the roles of Ohio pioneers, as the demonstrate the skills and crafts that fueled such villages, see draft animals doing their jobs and listen to storytellers spin tales of what it was like back in the day.
Among other things, there’ll be demonstrations of the process of maple sugaring, including tree tapping and sap boiling, a process with roots in indigenous knowledge and early American agriculture.
Hale’s Farm Marketplace will be open to purchase seasonal items, many of them made in Ohio. Get tickets here.
