Wed 11/5
Full moons are always dramatic, but the so-called Supermoon of November will be the biggest, brightest full moon of 2025, peaking on Wednesday November 5. It’s also called the Beaver Moon, supposedly because beavers are getting their homes ready for the winter at this time. (It’s also supposed to be a good time to set beaver traps before the water freezes, but since we love live beavers, we’ll overlook that.)
Want to see the moon in an outdoor setting with a friendly group of people and maybe a naturalist guide? You have several options. The Cleveland Metroparks will be hosting a Super Full Moon Hike starting from its West Creek Reservation watershed Stewardship Center. The hour-long hike starts at 7pm.
If you’re out in Geauga County, head over to Geauga Park’s Observatory Park where the guide will share what busy beavers are up to at this time of year, and watch the rising moon through the park’s telescope, weather permitting. The event is from 6-7:3pm and no registration is required.
And for those south of here, the Summit Metro Parks will be hosting a Full Moon Owl Prowl at the Deep Lock Quarry Metro Park/Quarry Trail in Peninsula from 6:30-8pm. Look for owls in the moonlight on the naturalist-led 1.4 mile hike along the Quarry Trail and learn some owl calls, how they adapt to nocturnal life and how you can spot them. Bring a flashlight if you want. Get more info at 330-865-8065.
