There are some spectacular nights coming up at Severance Hall. The Cleveland Orchestra will be joined by soloists, bass Mikhail Petrenko and soprano Katarina Dalayman, members of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and, most notably, by the Chicago-based Joffrey Ballet, with artistic director Ashley Wheater, for a series of evening featuring a pair of one-act ballets with music by Béla Bartók.
“The Miraculous Mandarin” and “Bluebeard’s Castle” are both exotic, erotic, expressionistic works in which dark passions lead to destruction and doom. In the former, a gang of hoodlums forces a woman to lure a wealthy man to his death. Yuri Possokhov set provided choreography and stage direction, Alexander V. Nichols did the lighting and project designs and Mark Zappone designed the costumes. Music director Franz Welser-Möst conducts the orchestra. Tickets $29 are $162.
