If you are an enthusiastic birder or if you’re just curious about birds, you’ll want to check out the Headlands Birding Festival, taking place for three days at Mentor Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve where check-in, food trucks, vendors and information booths will be located, and most of the programs will meet among the beaches, marshes and woods that comprise the area’s restored, protected natural lands.
If you’re an experienced birder you can wander off on your own. If you’re not, there are walks, talks and other educations programs you can plug into including a late-night (8-10pm) program for International Observe the Moon Night taking place on the Wake Robin Boardwalk in the Mentor Marsh, led Cleveland Museum of Natural History astronomer Monica Marshall.
And the Mentor Marsh Nature Center will have extended hours for the birders from 1oam to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. There’s even a Saturday night social called Birds, Bistro and Brews at Lyric Bistro in nearby Fairport Harbor where you can have coffee and free food, play Birder Bingo, and watch a special screening of Ohio, Wild at Heart.
