In honor of the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding and in conjunction with Ohio Open Doors, events taking place in towns across Ohio from September 10-20, Main Street Kent and the Kent Historical Society have put together their own celebration with a series of free events open to the public.
The series kicks off on Tuesday September 15, with a special edition of North Water Brewing Company’s Tap Talks. Three authors who have written about Kent’s role in the Northeast Ohio music scene over the years will share some little-known 9and some probably well-known stories) from the 60s through today. They include Jason Prufer, author of Small Town, Big Music; Chas Madonio, author of Bars, Bands and Rock and Roll; and Ryan Brannon, author of Touring from Kent—Rock Bands on the Road.
On Wednesday, September 16 the Kent Historical Society Museum will host visitors for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and exhibits that tell the story of Kent’s evolution from mill town to college town. On Thursday, September 17, the Kent State University Museum will open for a chance to see some of its major collection of fashion, textiles and decorative arts.
The 1875 Erie Depot will host a happy hour educational “pub tour” on Friday September 18; on Saturday September 19 there’s a walking/mobile tour of landmark buildings on Gougler Avenue. And on Sunday September 19 you can take a historic homes tour.
