As we’ve frequently mentioned, not only is Ryan Humbert one of Akron’s most talented rock & rock singer/songwriters, he’s also major music scene catalyst, bringing musicians together for all sorts of special events. One of those is his annual Ryan Humbert Holiday Extravaganza benefit, now in its 6th year, taking place at the Akron Civic Theatre.
This time, he’ll be joined by 13-piece the Savoy Big Band, backing him and his longtime vocal sparring partner Emily Bates as they perform big band, jazz and pop standards and holiday classics in the sophisticated style of the Rat Pack.
This year, the event will benefit Akron General’s Muffins for Mammograms Program, which provides mammograms from uninsured and underinsured women.
“My mother just successfully completed her breast cancer treatment at Akron General,” says Humbert. “I believe that all women should have the opportunity to get screened for this terrible disease. I’m glad that we are able to help this worthwhile program provide this much needed service.”
The concerts will take place in Akron Civic’s intimate cabaret setup, which should help create a retro vibe. Tickets are $20 or the date night special two for $35. So get out that tux or evening dress and have a night on the town for a good cause.
In addition, at each performance, there will be an auction for a camping weekend, courtesy of General RV, and a Akron Rubber Ducks VIP package, with four tickets to a 2015 Rubber Ducks game, a behind-the-scenes tour and a ceremonial first pitch — all to benefit the Muffins for Mammograms program.
