Rhett Miller & Jon Langford Bring Alt-Country Star Power @MusicBoxCle

Rhett

Sun 11/2 @7:30PM

Rhett Miller (pictured) made his mark as the leader singer of Old 97’s, an alternative country band with a strong vein of sparkling pop. He’s still the lead singer of Old 97’s — not only haven’t they gone away, they have a new album Most Messed Up released this past spring — but he’s also a busy solo artist. He’s interspersed five solo albums among his work with Old 97’s (the latest is 2012’s The Dreamer), allowing him to express more intimate and personal thoughts.

He’ll be at the Music Box Supper Club with Jon Langford, the Wales native and Chicago resident who has been a mainstay of the Midwestern alt-country scene for a couple of decades with his bands the Mekons, the Waco Brothers and the Pine Valley Cosmonauts. It’s a show fans of the genre won’t want to miss.

Langford is also an artist and he’ll have a pop-up art show at the Music Box starting at 5, which will be open for browsing and buying from 5-7pm for free. It will also be open during intermission and after the short for concert patrons.

Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door.
