Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, looks to its audiences of the future with a pair of programs aimed at younger audiences.
Music Collision: Art Meets Folk, 1614 features musicians from Apollo’s Fire’s Young Artist Apprentice program, who’ll perform 17th-century works by composers like Castello, Monteverdi, Byrd and Marais, and connect them to contemporary blues. Following the concert, there’ll be coffee and conversation with the four young performers: soprano Madeline Apple Healey, violinist Augusta McKay Lodge, violinist/violist Cynthia Black, cellist/viola de gamba player Davis Ellis.
That program happens Friday at Chagrin Falls Methodist Church and Saturday evening at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights.
Apollo’s Fire promotes “Ballads & Other Musical Tall Tales” as an “interactive program for the young and young-at-heart, ages 6-96.” But its 45-minute length, its focus on the stories in the music, and the interactive component make it ideal for introducing youngsters to new music.
The same four musicians will perform —Saturday afternoon at St. Noel’s Church in Willoughby Hills and Sunday afternoon at the Rocky River Presbyterian Church.
Tickets to all four concerts are $10 for adults, $5 for those under 18.
