Tremont's Arts in August Presents Dance and Theater

Sat 8/1 @ 8:30PM

Sun 8/2 @ 7PM

While Tremont’s Arts in August series in Lincoln Park typically programs each weekend during the month, so far we only have word of two events, both happening on the first weekend.

On Saturday August 1, Ohio Contemporary Ballet (formerly Verb Ballets) will present “Celebrating a Decade of Grace” to honor retiring company member Kelly Korfhage, who, they assert, is known for “her exquisite pointe work and striking lines.” This program is her last performance with the company, and she personally chose some of her favorite pieces from the company’s repertoire to make up the program.

Then on the following night, Sunday August 2, the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, which performs each of its two productions every summer at various outdoor locations around the air, will be dipping in with its closing production of the season, Shakespeare’s history play The Tragedy of King Richard III. The play, packed with murder, violence and betrayal, tells the story of a British king who served in that role for two years before dying in 1485 in battle, just over a century before Shakespeare told his story onstage. While the play is one of Shakespeare’s longest, OSF’s model is to offer edited versions of the plays since their performances all take place outdoors without sets or lighting so they must conclude by dark.

Both performances are free and open to all. People are invited to bring blanket, chairs and picnics and enjoy an evening out in the fresh air.
