A number of years ago, local inspirational writer Regina Brett and Irish actress Derdriu Ring (a frequent presence on area stages) founded a benefit event called The Power of Words: A Literary Fest and Fundraiser. It originally took place at the former Nighttown in Cleveland Heights and raised money for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library. After getting thrown off course by the pandemic, it has now returned, taking place at the Music Box Supper Club and raising money for the Cleveland Public Library.
It features a lineup of 30 writers and other local performers including musicians, comedians and actors. In addition to Brett and Ring, the lineup includes former Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell, current East Cleveland Mayor Sandra Morgan, CoolCleveland.com publisher Thomas Mulready, bestselling author Thrity Umrigar, nationally produced playwright Eric Coble, performance poet Ray McNiece, legendary news anchor Leon Bibb, comedian Mike Polk Jr. and politician-turned-actor Peter Lawson Jones, among others.
Doors open at 5:30 to enjoy food and drink before the program which starts at 7pm. Go here for tickets.
