As You Like It, written as the 16th century turned into the 17th, is one of William Shakespeare’s most engagingly frothy and romantic comedies. It involves two young women, disguised as men, who fin love in the Forest of Arden as they flee an oppressive uncle’s court. Like most of his comedies, it mixes high-born characters and rustic characters. And like almost all of Shakespeare’s plays, it’s become a staple in theaters around the world.
It will open the Ohio Shakespeare Festival’s summer season outdoors on the grounds of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, directed by the company’s Associate Artistic Director Tess Burgler. Gates open at 6pm for picnicking on Stan Hywet’s beautiful grounds. The Greenshow—a traditonal Elizabethan pre-show summary of the upcoming play—begins at 7:30 with the play itself at 8pm. It runs Thursday through Sunday through July 26.
