The Heights Music Hop is back in a different time slot this year — moved up a month from late September to late August. And it’s featuring more venues and more bands and musicians than it has previously with more than 80 artists playing dozens of venues in four different neighborhoods over three days.
It starts in the Cedar-Fairmount area on Friday evening August 28, moves to the Noble neighborhood for a daytime concert Saturday from noon-4pm that’s extremely kid-friendly (there’s face painting!), while there’s music all afternoon and evening in the Cedar-Lee business district. It finishes up Sunday afternoon in Coventry Village.
The schedule has music for every taste from classical to hip hop to blues to Latin music. There’s even a Nepalese band, Neekesh and the Band, playing at the Noble Road location on Saturday afternoon, a nod to that area’s increasing Nepalese population.
It’s also snagged some of the biggest names in town for its roster including Blue Lunch and Hello! 3D playing the Ascent Pocket Park at Cedar-Fairmount on Friday evening, Italian folk/jazz ensemble Alla Boara at Hexagon Books on Lee Road Saturday afternoon; Apostle Jones who’ll be at the Tavern Company of Lee Road Saturday evening; and swamp rockers Cats on Holiday and folk/rock band Maura Rogers & the Bellows will be playing at Boss Dog Brewing Saturday evening.
Sunday’s activities on Coventry include a concert with klezmer band Yiddishe Cup at P.E.A.C.E. Park at 2:30, a drum circle at the arch from 6-8pm, a silent film festival with live piano music at Height Theater and a sidewalk sale with more than 40 vendors.
That’s just scratching the surface. You’ll have to go check out the schedule yourself and make a plan. It’s all free.
