If you’re a fan of church festivals, then you’ll want to be out in Parma at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral this weekend for its Serbian Festival, celebrating Serbian and Eastern European culture and heritage.
Naturally the centerpiece of the festival is food: spit-roasted lamb and pig, ćevaps, sarma, gibanica, and desserts such as krofne (Serbian donuts) and palacinka (crepes). There’ll be Serbian beer to wash it all down, if you’re over 21, that is. And you can enjoy your food while taking in ethnic dance and music performances.
You can also take a tour of the spectacular cathedral and learn about the gorgeous frescoes that adorn all its interior walls. “The fresco project, which was completed by the School of Iconography and Preservation in Belgrade, took nearly seven years to complete,” they share. You won’t want to miss this.
Admission and parking are free; the festival is, rain or shine!
