Here’s a reason to visit Rising Star Coffee Roasters’ new location in Little Italy (the first is in Ohio City across from the Transformer Station). They’re calling it a Dios de los Muertos celebration, although it’s a little late for that.
The centerpiece of “Throw Down Thursday” is a Latte Art Competition open to local baristas. The bracketed tournament pits them in a contest to create “latte art” until the winner is crowned. Each competitor kicks in $5 and the winners get the pot. Judges include Noelle Celeste from Edible Cleveland and Scene restaurant writer Doug Trattner.
The event is free to attend and people are encouraged to come dressed as skeletons in the theme of the evening to cheer on the contestants. Rising Star’s coffee buyer and quality control manager John Johnson says they hope to “foster a community of coffee professionals in the area. Cleveland has a growing craft coffee scene, and we want to bring everyone together to celebrate that.
