Like a comforting limited series, it’s nice to be able to count on the traditional autumn events like the Screw Factory’s fall open studio/art show, Oktoberfest at Put-in-Bay, Walkabout Tremont and the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival.But it’s the new ones that really light our fire. The recently spun-off Neighborhood Pets is constructing a wellness center for your pets, and they’re throwing open their doors at a fun open house party. Akron-based choreographer Dominic Moore-Dunson presents a new work on what safety means in the Black community. A documentary film on mixed-race families holds multiple screenings and events. Oberlin hosts an intriguing festival on music and sport. Summit Metro Park offers a self-guided tour of the colors of the season.

Last year, Neighborhood Pets, which began as an offshoot of Friends of the Cleveland Kennel, became its own organization so it could do more of what it was founded to do: provide free and low-cost services to financially challenged pet owners so they didn’t have to give up their four-legged friends.Now the organization has moved into expansive new headquarters and it’s constructing a wellness center.
