Take a History-Oriented Haunted Walk in the Gordon Square Arts District

Fri 10/8 & Sat 10/9 @ 6-9PM

Want to get in that spooky Halloween without encountering anything too scary? Join the West Clinton Block Club and Near West Theatre for a Historic Haunts Walking tour, a lantern-guided tour of the Gordon Square Arts District’s surrounding residential areas.

Storytellers will take groups of walkers back to the 1920s, to the era when the iconic Gordon Square Arcade at Detroit Avenue and West 65th Street was built (as were landmarks like Terminal Tower and the Playhouse Square Theaters), when women got the right to vote and started to bob their hair and drinking went underground during Prohibition.

“This event fuses all of the things we love about our district,” says Near West Theatre executive director Mike Obertacz. “It is neighborhood-driven with some 80 residents volunteering their time and creative energy. It is art-driven with actors in full costume and makeup. And it’s incredibly entertaining, while at the same time, educating visitors about our neighborhood’s rich history and showcasing our architectural landmarks.”

The mile-long, 60-minute walks depart from Near West Theatre every 15 minutes. Tickets are $8; free for 15. Proceeds benefit future haunted walks. Reserve your time slot here.
